The Camper’s take
Updated June 2026
Beautiful mountain hiking spot with panoramic views over Aspe Valley. Access via rough forest track, paved at start then gravel/earth, narrow and steep. Suitable for small vans and 4x4 vehicles; large motorhomes struggle (6-7 m max realistic). Very quiet at night despite some hiker traffic in late afternoon. No services. Good hiking access (Col d'Ayous, Refuge du Larry).
Highlights
- Stunning valley views
- Very quiet and peaceful at night
- Gateway to famous hikes like Col d'Ayous and Larry's Refuge
- Good mobile (4G) reception
Good to know
- Narrow, steep, and deeply rutted access track
- Not suitable for big campervans (7 m+)
- Tight parking spot at the top
- Reverse often necessary
Motorhome access : Difficult and highly not recommended for motorhomes over 6-7m. Steep, narrow track with sharp turns and ravines. Tricky maneuvering, frequent reversing. OK for small vans and 5.5m motorhomes with experience. Rocky but drivable terrain.
