The Camper’s take
Updated June 2026
Large free parking beside the Yonne river, facing Auxerre's historic center, accessed by pedestrian bridge. Flat gravel surface, mixed cars and motorhomes. Bins available. Highly variable: peaceful some nights, but frequently congested by permanent funfair and chaotically parked cars. Challenging access for vehicles over 8 m. Ideal for quick city visits, less suitable for quiet rest.
Highlights
- Direct pedestrian access to the historic center via footbridge
- Free parking by the river with panoramic views
- Flat and accessible site, close to a Leclerc store.
Good to know
- Nearby fairgrounds may reduce available spots almost permanently
- Chaotic mixed parking with cars and campervans
- Difficult access for motorhomes over 8-9m; no room for a U-turn at the end
Motorhome access : Flat gravel terrain, but tricky access: narrow roads, no room for a U-turn at the end. Best for small to medium-sized vehicles (under 8 m recommended). Tricky reverse maneuvers on bends.
